A 9.885 ACRE former LIMESTONE QUARRY that includes just over 3 acres of pastureland and some 3 acres of mature woodland that is subject to an SSSI being part of the 'Coedydd Capel Dyddgen' SSSI but which has to take account of the extant Planning Permission for the Quarrying of Minerals that is valid until 2042.

Pen Y Banc Quarry is located fronting the Crwbin to Capel Dyddgen/Meinciau road approximately a quarter of a mile of the village of Crwbin which in turn is located on the B4306 Carmarthen to Pontyberem road within 3 miles of Pontyberem and approximately 7 miles south of the County and Market town of Carmarthen.

PLANNING PERMISSION

Quarrying Permission was granted on the 15th September 1949 under Planning Reference R1/296 and quarrying ceased in 1964. The ability to quarry the land is valid until February of 2042 and the land is part of a land bank of Mineral Reserves held by the County Council.

SITE OF SPECIAL SCIENTIFIC CITATION

‘Coedydd Capel Dyddgen’ was designated as an SSSI in September of 1999 and covers an overall area of approximately 61 acres (24.7 hectares) and which incorporates ‘Pen Y Banc’ Quarry and land.

Applicants may be interested to note that the existing Planning Consent although covered by an SSSI designation does not override the existing Quarrying Consent that exists until 2042 as confirmed by the Countryside Council for Wales in December of 1999.

DIRECTIONS: - From Carmarthen take the A484 Llanelli road south and at Cwmffrwd bear left onto the B4309 Pontyates/Pontyberem road (signposted). Continue along this road for approximately a quarter of a mile and turn left for Llangyndeyrn/Pontyberem (signposted B4306). Travel through the village of Llangyndeyrn continuing up the hill and upon entering Crwbin turn first right at the offset cross roads into a small Council maintained country lane. Continue past the entrance to 'Heol Dyddgen' passing the row of bungalows/houses on the left hand side and the Quarry will be found a further 100 yards along on the left hand side.
