The Woodland lies on a steep north facing slope just above the village of Llanllwch some 2 miles west of the County and Market town of Carmarthen.

The site is sheltered from the prevailing south westerly winds and the soil is free draining being suitable for the growing of high quality conifers if desired. The Woodland is considered a low wind-throw risk site due to it's sheltered position and free draining soil and enjoys relatively easy access to a trunk road for timber haulage.

The Wood was planted in 1961 by the Forestry Commission with Douglas Fir as the sole species and which are considered the most suitable for this type of site.

The Woodland has seen no active management since it's establishment but has grown reasonably well nonetheless but which has resulted in natural broadleaved species such as Ash, Birch and Willow invading the area.

The Conifer crop has self-thinned and it is believed that the crop has reached effective maturity.

We understand that the area is registered as a 'Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site' (PAWS). This designation will effect the permissions and grant aid that may be available to Freeholders.
